SLU-CEE: Saint Louis University College Entrance Examination

I'll be heading for Baguio tomorrow at dawn for my SLU entrance exam on Sunday.......... Baguio's populated with Koreans..... so I've got to practice some korean lines..... LOL I hope we find and get to eat at a Korean restau. I hope so. After the entrance exam, are preliminary exams back at school and I haven't prepared yet for either of the two. Augh.

Overview: Hanbok

Women's hanbok is comprised of a wrap-around skirt and a jacket. It is often called chima-jeogori, 'chima' being the Korean word for skirt and 'jeogori' the word for jacket. Men's hanbok consists of a short jacket and pants, called 'baji', that are roomy and bound at the ankles. Both ensembles may be topped by a long coat of a similar cut called 'durumagi'. Hanbok worn today are patterned after those worn during the Confucian-oriented Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Yangban, a hereditary aristocratic class based on scholarship and official position rather than on wealth, wore brightly colored hanbok of plain and patterned silk in cold weather and closely woven ramie cloth or other high-grade, light weight materials in warm weather. Commoners, on the other hand, were restricted by law as well as finances to bleached hemp and cotton and could only wear white, pale pink, light green, gray or charcoal colors.

Jeogori->The jeogori makes up the upper part of the hanbok. Men's jeogori is larger and simplistic while a woman's jeogori is rather short and characterized by curved lines and delicate decorations.

DongJeong->The dongjeong refers to a white collar attached along the rim of the neckline. It contrasts and harmonizes with the overall curve of the neck.

Otgoreum (Cloth Strings)->The otgoreum is a women's ornamental piece, which hangs vertically across the front of the chima.

Baerae (Jeogori Sleeve)->The baerae refers to the lower lines of the sleeve of either the jeogori , or the magoja (outer jacket). It features a circular line which is naturally curved, similar to the line of the eaves of the traditional Korean house.

Chima->The chima is the women's outer skirt. There are different kinds of chima: single-layered, double-layered, and quilted. Pul-chima refers to a chima with a separated back, whereas a tong-chima has a seamed back.

Durumagi->The durumagi is a traditional overcoat worn on special occasions over the traditional jacket and pants.

Baji->Baji refers to the lower part of the men's hanbok. . The roomy nature of the cloth is due to a design aimed at making the cloth ideal for sitting on the floor.

*Kkotsin->The kkotsin refers to silk shoes on which flower patterns are embroidered. They play an important role in completing the graceful line of the lower rim of the chima.

here are nice kkotsins:

It's my dad's birthday today...... so we had carbonara and....... Chocolate marjolaine! Sherica's also celebrating her birthday today and she treated us at Jollibee (Leizel, McJo, Plinky and me) It was fun.

The San Jose Chronicles[that's our school's official newspaper..... which I am a part of... ;) ] will be joining the Division School's Press Conference.... It's a contest for journalists....... I'll be competing also....... Hope we could really show what CSJA is. GOODLUCK to us. 아자!!!!

what would FAHRENHEIT be if they weren't stars?

THEY are one of the hottest boybands from Taiwan, but if the members of pop group Fahrenheit never got together, things might have turned out quite differently.

The New Paper had posed this 'what if' question to the group when it was in town on Monday to promote its Fantasy World Tour. Fahrenheit will perform here next month. Wu Chun would be a budding entrepreneur, Aaron Yan would be in the US studying American history, and Calvin Chen would be crunching numbers in a financial institution in Canada.

Jiro Wang was not here, as he was resting in Taiwan with a leg injury.

While we wonder if these pretty boys can live up to such lofty ambitions, they did the entire interview in English just to prove their point.

Wu Chun, 29

When it comes to making money, this Brunei-born singer started early. He opened a pool cafe with his friend when he was just 15. And if that was not enough, he followed that up by selling car parts.

Wouldn't a teenager be less preoccupied with work at that age? 'I was probably influenced by friends who were all into running businesses,' Wu Chun said.

By the time he joined Fahrenheit in 2005, he was already into his third business- managing his family's fitness centre in Brunei. It was not easy.

'I would manage the fitness centre with my staff members from 1pm to 8pm and go for a workout at around 10pm. After that, it's back home to work till 4am. 'At night, when I'm alone, I have time to focus on what I want to do. I'm too busy managing manpower in the day to do this.'

He even won a Young Entrepreneur Award in Brunei.

Wu Chun said: 'When my mum was sick, I did a lot of research on the Internet to see how I could help. 'I learnt the importance of research and realised how it could really help businesses. Even though she has passed away, she inspired me to win the award.'

The self-confessed workaholic credits his work ethic to his idol, basketball player Michael Jordan. 'He taught me that when you want to do something, you give it your all. Focus on it and be very serious about it.'

This Jordan fanatic also has a tattoo of his idol on his leg.

So what would he say to the NBA star if he met him? 'I'll say, let's be friends. And can we do business together?'

Calvin Chen, 28

He might not look it, but Calvin used to be quite the studious geek. When he was a teaching assistant at a graduate school in Vancouver, Canada, Calvin said he would stay back till very late with his nose in his books. He said he would sometimes be pottering around in his office 'till 3am', so much so the school security guards kept a close watch on him. 'The guards would always ask me for my ID and key. But when they got used to me, it was okay.'

Calvin, who has a masters in economics, believes his ability to crunch numbers has actually helped him with his relationships. 'The concepts in business and economics have given me heightened reasoning skills when dealing with people,' he said.

So what financial advice does he have for his fans? 'Save more. Only invest in something that you are familiar or interested in.'

Aaron Yan, 22

If Aaron was not touring the world as part of a boyband, he would be back in the country he grew up in - the US. The Taiwan-born singer spent his primary-school years in Connecticut for five years.

Aaron, who studied journalism in a university in Taiwan, is now doing a major in English, with a special interest in American history.

Asked to weigh in on the recent US presidential elections, he said: 'It was a meaningful election... because racial issues have always been a problem for them (Americans). 'By electing a black man, it shows that they have progressed.'

Aaron recalled how, when he was a child in the US, he would eat the same thing every day for breakfast - milk and bread. And he continues to do so till now. He also professed his adoration for Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. 'She's just so sexy. She's perfect.'

We didn't had discussions today. Everyone's busy for the school's upcoming foundation day celebration....... my classmates are busy practicing but my friends and I just stayed in the classroom because we'll be joining the Division Schools Press Conference on the first day of our foundation, and that's when they will be performing the dance they're practicing.......... It's boring in the room so we just ended up singing then had a little "talk" the whole time of their practice. :)

a step closer to the dream

I'm now a step closer on learning how to play the violin....... I'll be starting my classes in December...... But I have to keep my word with mom that I'll be the one who's going to pay for the violin which would slash about 4500Php of my savings! and she's just going to pay for the lessons......... Anyways, I really hope that I would really learn, and get to be good at a certain thang. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Aja!

My invention would be:

It's free to dream.... kaya lubusin mo narin! ;)

Our topic in Filipino has something to do with inventions.... So..... we were group and asked to share what we would want to invent and why, then we share it infront of the class. I wanted to invent something to feed animals that could make animals speak in an instant, that's because I want to hear chipmunks talking! ( i hope their voice would really be the same as in the movies....) We had Randy in the group, and he's the BEST joker in class :D and this is what he wanted to invent:

battery na de-batterya
madikit na hand grenade
napakagandang mga inventions diba? ;)

I do by Genie English translation (I am Sam OST)

Title: I Do (Singer: Genie)
Lyrics Translation by S. Ang

You’re my love, girl; the only one in the world
A present sent from heaven above
You’re my shining star.
I’ll always take care of you,
I’m your guardian angel
Your guardian angel. Right
The rain, the wind, anytime, anywhere
You can count on me
‘Cause you’re my girl friend
I hope you’ll accept my love
I thank the Lord above for my love

How’d we meet?
My dearest and most precious
Like a diary cast aside

All of me laid in the bare
You’re so like me
It makes me think of you only

Now, for you, I do for you
I do, whatever you say
I take you in
Like the first time I saw you

Notice me, want me
Gaze at no other
I won’t make you feel like you’re alone

I’ve changed so much since I’ve met you
My friends don’t know who I am anymore
Everything I do girl, it’s all for you girl,
I’ll give you my everything, no regrets
I think I’ve finally found my love
My sweet love,
good love one and only true love.
Lean on me if you’re tired
I’ll always be there,
I’ll stand by you. But listen

Don’t look back
I’ll always be here
You’re the only one for me
You know this too

Now, for you, I do for you
I do, whatever you say
I take you in
Like the first time I saw you

Notice me, want me
Gaze at no other
I won’t make you feel like you’re alone

I didn’t know love would know at my door
But that all changed
The moment I met you. Now,
I’m happy in my day to day
Why is that? Oh, because of you
I hope it’s forever (I love you)
I’ll confess to you (I love you)
Girl, I hope you understand.
You’re my one and only
Love. My one true love

Notice me, want me
Gaze at no other
I won’t make you feel like you’re alone

the WASP

I guess I already had trauma because of that wasp to stung me on the head while I was getting "kamias"(it's a green finger shaped, sour tasting fruit...... it's used in Sinigang-that's a native Filipino dish) to sun-dry it so lola could bring them to the states when she gets back. Since then, I panic whenever I hear a buzzing sound. I even shouted when we were having our practice last Friday when I realized that a wasp passed in front of me. I think our teacher got mad a bit about that.........

I saw a wasp today making a hive in our window..... of course the window's screened that made it possible for me to watch it closely....... It's amazing how it builds its hive....... it carries mud, with the size of a pellet (I wonder where it gets wet soil..... or maybe it wets it with its saliva?..... hahaha just guessing!) and shapes it with its snout and hands...... It's a amazing how it could make it a beautiful circle...... it comes back I think every after 15 minutes after it has molded the mud....

Well that doesn't erase my fear about wasps....... I just find it cool that I got the chance to closely see how wasps make their hives... ;)

Friday, November 14

I remember my younger years.......

We went to a birthday party just few blocks away from our house........ I actually didn't like go out the house because I was really lazy and I wanted to finish my reaction paper at once..... But I was really tired and thought that eating would "recharge" my batteries...... anyway it's just a walk away so I did come with mom....... We ate and the children played "pukpok palayok" (it's the Filipino version of the pinatas) It reminded me of my younger years when I used to attend children parties...... they always had those kind of games....... and I always didn't join those. I was shy when I was young...... I think until now, but it has lessened already ;) I would just stay beside mom watching the children play........ When we used to go somewhere we he had to wait (like for a check up in the hospital) I would just sit and ask mom dozens of times: "Tagal pa?" I just watch other children playing around...... I think I'm just not that kind of person who finds it easy to socialize... speacially to strangers.....

Reaction paper....

Oh. At last. I'm already done with my reaction paper about what's going to happen with the United States under Barack Obama's administration........... Gosh. I spent 3 hours searching for his profiles, pro and cons about his winning and then editing....... I think I finished editing at one o'clock....... it was then about four when I stopped writing and resumed at around six.

Thursday, November 13

All for One, One for All!

We had "The Man in the Iron Mask" for film viewing a while ago......... the last time I watched it, I think i was just about nine years old that time and didn't understand the whole story........ Hahahahaha! It's nice to watch it again...... now I get the whole story.... :D Hee hee hee Leonardo DeCaprio was really cute there!(oh his blue eyes!)

The story was really nice. I really liked it that I cried a bit in the end..... Hahahahaha

the MOON makes me go wow!

WOW! I think it's the first time I've seen the moon that big! It's thrice as big as it is on ordinary full moons...... no... no... maybe just twice...... maybe I'm just getting too exaggerated....... But it really is big!!! If only mom's digicam's always charged then I could have taken a photo of it........ I wonder what made it look that big...... I'm sure it isn't an eclipse because I've hadn't heard anything from the news that there will be one tonight...... and the moon must have been color red just like my cousins said how it looked like during lunar eclipses..... but it was just yellow........ I think it has something to do with a place where I've seen it...... and I think I've seen it on the west...... because I've read that the moon appears to be bigger from the west..... I normally see the moon full on the side of our house, close to tito's (which I think is the east basing it on the "west thinggy" I've read....) but now it appears on daddy rody's side (my granpa's house...) which is probablt the west.

Long Lost Crush....

Okay.... so i traced him back when I was searching for info about Han Chae Young and I saw on the list of the Cast in Only You......

If I remembered it right..... Only You was aired here in the Philippines in 2005...... and I was in the 6th grade that time...... Only You's timeslot was during evening and I got to watch it every night..... I really feel that "kilig" hahahahahaha whenever I watch....... I think that's the reason why it triggered to show in my dreams......... I could still remember that dream a bit........... I was walking with Jo Hyun Jae after a long ride from somewhere I don't know. hahahahaha He was actually the first actor I've dreamt of. Hahahaha memorable. ;)

And now I just knew that he's playing a part on Three Dads and One Mom, and that's making me really watch it!

Han Chae Young.....

Han Chae Young, known as Korea's "Barbie doll" became famous because of the kdrama "Delightful Girl Choon Hyang" and was also seen in "Only You", and will be playing as Min Seo Hyun(Todo Shizuka) in the Korean remake of "Hana Yori Dango" which will be titled as Boys before Flowers.

oh yeah..! doesn't she look like Katrina Halili?:

Adobe Photoshop CS4, as real as it gets

Although I only know basics on photoshop editing...... I know how much it has improved it's look on its CS4 version:

10 tips to build English vocabulary

Connect: It's easier to memorize words based on a common theme. Make your own connections between words and possibly organize them in a spider diagram.

Write: Practically using vocabulary can help it stick in your mind. Write sentences with new vocabulary words or compose a story using a group of words or expressions.

Draw: Expose the artist in you by drawing pictures related to the words you study. Your drawings can help trigger your memory in the future.

Act: Get your moves on by acting out words and expressions you learn. Or, imagine and act out a situation where you would need to use them.

Create: Design flashcards in English and study them in your spare time. Each week make new ones, but continue to review all of them.

Associate: Assign different colors to different words. This association will help you recall vocabulary later.

Listen: Think about other words which sound similar to the words you're learning, especially complex words. Associate the other words with this new word to help you remember the pronunciation.

Choose: Remember that topics that interest you will be easier to learn. Therefore, carefully select words that you will find useful or interesting. Even the process of making the choice is a memory aid!

Limit: Don't try to memorize the dictionary in a day! Limit yourself to 15 words per day, and you'll gain confidence instead of feeling overwhelmed.

Observe: Keep an eye out for the words you're studying when reading or listening to English.

Charice Pempengco guests on Good morning America!

Charice is inviting everyone to watch the show "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" as she will be appearing as a special guest on November 19, 2008.

She will also participate on MACY's THANKSGIVING PARADE on November 27, along with other American teen stars such as David Archuleta (runner up on the American Idol '08) and other Disney stars like Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana).

For those who might remember, Good Morning America is the same show wherein the hosts got hold of the Filipino dance craze "Papaya dance" -- popularized by game show host (and actor) Edu Manzano on the Philippine game show "Game Ka Na Ba?". The hosts, including Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts (plus two more hosts) danced the "Papaya dance" on their show.

did GOD created EVIL?

Does evil exist? The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, “Yes, he did!”

“God created everything?” The professor asked.

“Yes, sir,” the student replied.

The professor answered, “If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil.”

The student became quiet before such an answer.

The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, “Can I ask you a question professor?”

“Of course,” replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, “Professor, does cold exist?”

“What kind of question is this? Of course, it exists.

Have you never been cold?”

The students snickered at the young man’s question.

The young man replied, “In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature.

Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat.

The student continued. “Professor, does darkness exist?”

The professor responded, “Of course it does.”

The student replied, “Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton’s prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn’t this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present.”

Finally the young man asked the professor. “Sir, does evil exist?”

Now uncertain, the professor responded, “Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man’s inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. “These manifestations are nothing else but evil.”

To this the student replied, “Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God’s love present in his heart. It’s like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.”

The professor sat down. The young man’s name? — Albert Einstein

(source)

I heard this story over the school’s PA this morning. God did not create evil. I believe that man created evil.

My bestfriend and I are not in good terms right now. I REALLY hope we get to fix this...... We've cleared issues between us several times but there's always times that we get some kind of "separated" from each other..... And I can't understand what it is.

I pray that we get back to how we were before.

How many birds did you see? Eleven, nineteen five?Y You have a vague idea, but you don't know the exact number. So where did that thought came from? I wrote back saying no and that I should focus myself on studies..... and slipped a "peace!" at the end to make sure that he won't get mad..... i still don't know why he still have to give me a present, knowing that he's not courting me. Ohh. Bewildering. But honestly, the bear was cute in a violet shirt and complementing violet ribbon..... he's got good taste. Maybe.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA what's bothering me is; should i accept gifts from someone i can't offer more than friendship???

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA

I'm really excited to watch the movie! I enjoyed Madagascar specially those scenes with the Lemurs (i'm not sure if it's lemurs..... maybe they're raccoons then.... hee hee) singing "Like you move it move it, like you move it move it....." :D I really like their king.... I think his name is Julien... and Marty's voice..... ;)

*It was originally billed as ‘The Crate Escape’ but it is now currently known as ‘Escape 2 Africa’.

Dubbers:
Ben Stiller - Alex (lion)
Chris Rock - Marty (zebra)
David Schwimmer - Melman (giraffe)
Jada Pinkett Smith - Gloria (hippopotamus)
